1970's Christmas Wish List

I grew up in the 1970's. I remember paging through the Sears catalog to make a Christmas wish list. Here are some of the things I wished for during that decade.

Above is my favorite toy ever....Lite Brite! It is too bad that I don't have a child because I would love to play with this again.
Here is THE album of the early 1970's; and I had it. I was so cool!
I remember riding in the car down to visit my cousin Bobby in Kankakee and I played with my Chrissy doll. Oh, the fixing of her hair! Endless hours of fun.
I remember playing this game with my brother (and Monopoly).
One of my all time favorite things was to color in coloring books!
If given unlimited funds in 1976 I would have picked out this Chevrolet Monte Carlo for my family.
A must have album!!!!!!!
I loved Seventeen magazine!!!! Would have loved a subscription to this.
Spirograph....another toy that still looks fun.
Little Kiddles........these look horrifically ugly to me now; but I used to like them.
"I sunk your Battleship!!!"
Oh my, I thought toe sox were so cool! Until I wore them on a ski trip! Since my toes were not bunched together they each got very cold in their own little "sock." That was a mistake!

What was one of your favorite childhood presents???

OMG Laura!! Are we sisters or what??? EVERY single thing you have pictured I had (and in some cases like the Little Kiddles and Chrissy...still have!)I had the album Believe in Music and I was THE coolest one ever listening to in my white inflatable chair with my revolving plastic mosaic heat powered lamp going around, and wearing the HUGE headphones of the time. We EVEN had the car you pictured- it was gold though and 1974 version (my grandmas's). I loved this post and being able to go down memory lane like that- I'm still laughing! Have a great week!

Thanks for sharing this, Laura! I had most of these things and forgotten about Crissy and that scratchy orange dress. :)
My sister, cousins, and I all got a Psychotherapy Coloring Calander in 1975 with a lot of wild hippie images that we would all sit around and color for hours on end. I found an uncolored one on ebay! I'm giving it to Josh (my hippie) and making copies for all of us old folks. Who doesn't love to color?!?

okay....now I feel old !!!
but OH the memories you just brought back for me....as I pretty much had all those goodies, too !!!

now those were the good old days....I'd love to wrap all those up and give them to my kids and explain to them that without computers or a cell phone as a child and only playing with things like these, that I ended up pretty normal !!!!

Laura, I am a little older, but still remember fun stuff like playing with lite brite (I think we may still have one in the garage), little kiddles (I had a set with Snow White and the 7 dwarfs in a little house...so cute), I also remember a Stacy doll (I think she was Barbie's British cousin) and a red car for her to drive. Also the game Pop Your Top. FUN MEMORIES!! Oh yes, SN Fever was big in my college days. Still have that album. My daughter love her 17 magazines and is always excited to get a new issue!!

What a great question!! I'm so with you on the Lite Brite! I'd bug my mom every chance I got for new patterns or whatever they were called. I'd have to say books were my all time favorite thing to get and still is :) I wasn't much of a dolly girl. Coloring and reading were my main things as a kid. Thanks for the memories, Laura :)

What a great post! I feel like I got to know you even better! I remember lots of those fun things, too!

My favorite childhood presents -- well, let's see -- I was THRILLED when I got the Mattel "Lie Detector" game. My cousin and I found it under the bed while searching for something else (not presents!). We acted very surprised! And books always excited me. Art supplies -- the first acrylic set I got was just magical to me. (I guess some things haven't changed -- board games, art supplies and books are still at the top of the list!)

I think Santa should bring you a Brite-Lite, crayons and a coloring book!

No child-requirement necessary.

too funny....i do remember my lite brite and that funny feeling black paper that came with it...my all time favorite christmas present was in 5th grade when i got my first ten speed...it was black and red boys model bike that i rode and rode and rode for around town for the next seven years.

My first bike and my first camera were my most treasured gifts. I always wanted a Spirograph. I'd still love one. And, I play with Sloane's Lite Brite more than she does. One little thing I loved where those bald guys with the black shavings and a magnet pen. Do you know what I mean? I found a girl version of that this year called Hairdo Harriet and I got it for Sloane. She loves it. But, not as much fun as her pretend cell phone.

Hey Laura!! Sorry I haven't visited in a while, but wow I hit a fun post!! My kids have Gnip Gnop AND Battleship (actually that's electronic now!!). They also have a Lite Brite cube ~~~ colored peg fun on all 4 sides!! Spirograph ~~ that's gone downhill, lol. I bought one for my son a few years ago & it worked horribly, I ended up taking it back. They just don't make things like they used to!! Thanks for the trip down memory lane :)

PS ~ OF COURSE I had the SNF album ~ who didn't?? LOL!

Laura, what fun...what a great memory! I too always wanted a 1976 Monte Carlo..still do kinda! I had a Chrissy doll too, and like Cindy F. I had a Tumbelina doll too! I think my favorite toys were always my stuffed animals. I had a Persian cat, a poodle, a boy and girl bunny I got for Easter one year and a Love Bug. They sat on my bed and knew all of my secrets!

Hi, I had these too! I think she was called Ballarina, though, wasnt' she? My kiddle came in a perfume bottle and was scented! Exciting! And I had FOIL spirograph...my parents must have spoiled me. Am I the only one that remembers a doll called "Flatsy"? (She's flat and that's that?) Jobeth

Jack still plays with an old school lightbrite like that. It was given to me when I was a kid by my grandma, and I love that thing!

OMG!! I remember all of these! I still have my Chrissy doll, she's not in the best of shape, but that was one of my favorite toys. I used to have the Spirograph toy and I remember that it used to come with push pins to hold the wheels in place and I would poke my brother with them if he dared move my drawing wheels!
