The Frenzy Takes Hold

You will recall from the last post that Summer Jubilee by BBD was a group obsession.   Brenda showed us her fiber and fabric for the project and then we were all jumping on the bandwagon.  Many of us had the book that the chart is in (the most glorious Souvenirs of Summer) and some of us went home that night and scoured the internet for it.  Lucky for me....it was in my stash.

I started the project on 32 count Black Sheep Black by R&R and immediately had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach.  It was hard to stitch on.  Hard to see.  It was work.  I was not going to stand for it!  Stitching is supposed to be relaxing.
So I started it over on 32 count Belfast Cream.  But my sinking feeling continued.  I imagined all my friends stitching along on the darker fabric.  I looked at the picture of the finished design.  The dark color fabric really makes the design pop.  It is integral to the design.  So, I decided that I would not let that dark fabric get the best of me.  I figuratively hitched up my pants and put on my determination cap and tried it again.
With my newfound vigor and support from my buddies, I went at it again and by golly, I can do it!  It was a little harder at first, but then it became kind of intuitive as to where my needle should land on the fabric.  Here is where I am now.
And the whole project is housed in this new stitching wallet from Natalia at Stitch 4 Joy.  The minute I saw this on her website I knew it had to come live with me.
Isn't it just adorable and so totally cool!!!!!
Do you have any stories of projects that you thought were too hard to do but that you conquered?

Okay, back to Summer Jubilee!!!!

Great job Laura! I think the ink spot linen really makes the colors pop and it'll be worth the effort in the end. It'll get easier as you stitch. Love the new project wallet!

Good for you for sticking with it on the black linen. It's definitely harder to do. And the wallet -- shucks, I wanted that one. lol!

Hi Laura

That project is going to look stunning on the darker fabric. I admire your determination to master it. It's looking lovely already.

I stitched Just Nan Snowbonnets and even though it's a tiny project it gave me such trouble that i nearly threw it away. I did finish it though and I love it now!

Glad to see that you are going to conqtuer this chart. I think it is beautiful.
It is kind of funny, I was looking at one of the first samplers that I did last night. It was "the good shepard" by Margret and Margret. It took me 4 years off and on to finish it. I dated it twice to show my determination to finish, from 1991 to 1995. Now as I look at it I laugh because at the time it was sticking to it and areas were difficult but seem like they would be so simple now. I have gone on to stitch many, many more samplers and much more difficult ones that took me far less time. However, I am one to start off with more difficult type projects than most beginners.
You will do great and remember even if it takes 4 years it's never to late to finish because you will enjoy it for years to come.

I'm glad you went back to th dark fabric, Laura--it really looks amazing. I actually don't mind stitching on darker fabric as long as I do it in good lighting...

Your new stitching wallet is so sweet--Natalia makes the prettiest designs!!

You did the right thing, I am thinking, Laura! It is just going to be gorgeous! I am wanting to do one of these, but I just can't put my hands on some of that 32 ct linen, that this project so begs for....did you get it from Cathy? May have to check with her to get some.

Your new stitching wallet from Natalia is SO you!! Adorable!!

You should get a commission for this one because I have the book and once I saw your blog, I went nine and ordered the fabric and threads.. I must be crazy for even considering another start.
