I am reading The Other Queen by Phillipa Gregory. Here is another instance of something I said that I would never like (historical fiction) and it turns out that I do! After reading her popular book The Other Boleyn Girl several years ago I have been fascinated with Tudor England. Phillipa Gregory is a great author and such an interesting person. If you ever get the chance to see her at an author reading, GO! She is fascinating.
Anyway, this book is about Mary, Queen of Scots, who I have heard of but knew nothing about. As I am reading the book I have had to look up a bunch of information on the internet so I know what people are talking about.
That led to me finding all of these portraits of Queen Mary. I think they are so beautiful.
I want to do some kind of arty thing with them. Perhaps incorporate them into journal pages?
Are there any historical periods you are interested in?

I failed history miserably !!!....as I really quite hate it !!! yet I love a good antique with lots of history behind it...go figure !!!
SO...give me anything old and vintage with peeling paint and falling apart AND I love it !!!
ive been to versaille in france that is the closest i came to enjoying history, lol!
xo
I was already wanting this book and now I REALLY want it.
I HATE history but LOVE her books!!! Is this the brand new one? She just makes that time period come alive and feel like you are right there! I will have to put this one on the Christmas list!

As I "age on", my love of history has grown. These days it is the Victorian Era.
The historical era you are reading is fascinating. Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth has always been a favorite - as has the very tragic tale of Ann Boleyn. Henry the 8th, is a chauvinist - would he get away with his many wives today and altering laws to have his way.
My suggestion for you is to find the movie "Lion In The Winter" with Peter O'Toole and Kate Hepburn. You will love this even though it may seem as old as the history - it really isn't. Great film and great acting.
I on the other hand have always loved history and historical fiction. For some reason I'm not a huge fan of this author - I ended up not liking the characters for some reason. I much prefer Jean Plaidy's and Antonia Fraser's books. The Lion in Winter is a good film, also you might check out Lady Jane, Anne of a Thousand Days, and Mary Queen of Scots. Then there's the Elizabeth movies with Cate Blanchett too and she does a great job.
Wow -- great images you found. I'm fascinated with English history of about any period, and I like novels about England in World War II. England period, novels or history. I need to read these books.
