Who would have thought a non-fiction book about North Korea would be #1? I did not really know much about North Korea and when I read this book I was shocked. What hardships the people of that country have endured. This books reads as fast as a novel. The author focuses on a few specific people and their lives. I think it is a must read.
I also think the book Where Men Win Glory is a definite must read for every American. Pat Tilman was a hero.
A book that I made fun of my friend for reading, True Colors by Kristin Hannah, ended up on the list! It was really a fun and interesting read.
Sherman Alexie is a really great author and I loved his book of short stories; which is saying something because I am not a big fan of short stories.
Sadly, I look back at my reading year in 2010 with some sadness. I really did not read that many books that knocked my socks off. However, yesterday I went to Barnes & Noble armed with gift cards and bought about 7 new books! They all look really good and I want to dive into them all right this minute!!!!

Thank you!! I see some new to me books in your list that I must check out. I don't think I could read the Pat Tillman book. What a hero. I loved the Hunger Games series, too. I never thought I'd like that type of book but it made me realize that I could be missing a lot of good books by ignoring both teen fition and postapocalyptic books.
Books I enjoyed in 2010: Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly (a teen fiction book, but EXCELLENT--type the book & author's name into you tube and watch the video about it); The Tale of Halcyon Crane by Wendy Webb; Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin; Saving Ceecee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman; The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom; and A Long Long Time Ago & Essentially True by Brigid Pasulka.

Interesting list of books! I'm going to have to check them out. I have a few of the same books Siobhan mentioned on my list -- Revolution, The Kitchen House. And then i can't remember if I read some in 2010 or 2009. lol! I did enjoy Room by Emma Donoghue and The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell. I'm sure there were others too, but I can't think of them right now.
Loved seeing your favorites for the year. You have gotten me interested in the North Korean book. Will have to get it.
I have just joined a mystery book club. We meet the third Thursday of the month. I've never belonged to one and wish I would have done so earlier. Just finished Knots and Crosses. It was one of those you couldn't put down.

Happy New Year!! Loved your book list! I read 'little Bee' in my book club and liked it but saw a few on your list I will certainly try . I just finished' Secret Daughter' by Shilpi Somaya Gowda and it I couldn't put it down . I highly recommend that one on your list for this year. Not sure if you've already read'The Help' it was another can't put down books. Last month my book club read the latest Mitch Albom book' Have a little faith'another great read. Giggle Giggle Giggle- which I did when I saw the Kristen Hannah book- so there! I have not read that one and would like to. I would also like to read Sweater Quest. I am with you- I really can't recall any really good books- I did like Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert, and the Nursing Home Aide one I borrowed from you. I guess I would have to say Hunger Games and the sequels would be it! Still giggling about Kristen Hannah. See you tomorrow!
