Lucky Day!

I had a lucky day today! It was kind of a perfect day. First, let me start by saying that these pictures have nothing to do with this blog entry! I had no pictures of my own to post; so I went on Google Images, typed in vintage dresses and these are some of the lovely fashions that popped up.
How I was lucky today: I found a poem on a fellow blogger's blog, Bookgirl's Nightstand. It is by Billy Collins. Here it is:

Why do we bother with the rest of the day,
the swale of the afternoon,
the sudden dip into evening,

then night with his notorious perfumes,
his many-pointed stars?

This is the best –
throwing off the light covers,
feet on the cold floor,
and buzzing around the house on espresso –

maybe a splash of water on the face,
a palmful of vitamins –
but mostly buzzing around the house on espresso,

dictionary and atlas open on the rug,
the typewriter waiting for the key of the head,
a cello on the radio,

and, if necessary, the windows –
trees fifty, a hundred years old
out there,
heavy clouds on the way
and the lawn steaming like a horse
in the early morning.

~Morning by Billy Collins

Isn't that delightful??? It inspired me to go to the library tonight to look for a book of his poems. I never read poems, but if there are poems like this I am a convert!

Next, lucky thing, my friend Jane went on a road trip this weekend and brought back some Fitz's root beer. It is from the St. Louis area but she found it in her old college town of Carbondale, Illinois.

Next I was lucky because we had Taco Bell for dinner, my favorite meal ever!

Then I was lucky because we went to the library and I found a ton of books that I wanted to read!!!!!

Losing Kei by Suzanne Kamata
Belong to Me by Marissa de los Santos
Apples and Oranges by Marie Brenner
Without a Map by Meredith Hall
Picnic, Lightning by Billy Collins
Happy Family by Wendy Lee
Now I would be really lucky if I could be shipped off to a cabin by a lake and sit on a porch and just read, read, read!!!!!! I guess I know what I will be doing every night after work this week........so much for cleaning (as if!)

Messed that one up. Anyway...

Wonderful post. Taco Bell, hunh? My favorite fast food dinner comes from our tiny town's only gas station. Being such a small town, there is actually NO restaurant open after hours. So, the gas station does a brisk business in pizza, chicken fingers, potato wedges and the like. Their broasted chicken fingers are more than amazing!

Anyway, I already told you on Good Reads how much I love Billy. In answer to your question, be sure to read Marginalia in Picnic, Lightening. In Nine Horses my favorites are Night Letter to the Reader and To My Patron. I can't wait to hear what you think about those poems.

Yes! Read, read, read! Not enough time, but wouldn't it be glorious?

Thank you for sharing the poem. It's really beautiful! And I loved the dress pix -- doesn't matter they don't "match" -- they're pretty!

Love all the photos, but the best was wishing to sit on a porch in a cabin by water & just read-that description was so vivid, I could just see it-and want it too!
