Placekeeper

I really am going to try to do a "real" blog entry this week; in the meantime here is a placekeeper. As you can tell by the picture above, I am still consumed with my renewed love of cross-stitching.

Last Friday night I want to a very great cross-stitch shop, The Country Cupboard, in Orland Park, Illinois and had a stitch-in with some women there. There was pizza served and everyone worked on their respective projects, talked and laughed. It was a great entry to the weekend.

This week will be a very weird one. Mike had to travel for work and will be gone all week. I get kind of directionless when he is gone. I have some movies to watch, some cross-stitch to do, and Wally Lamb's new book comes out on Tuesday so that all will keep me busy. But obviously I will miss my husband while he is gone. Before he goes away I think greedily of all that I will do when I am on my own, and then when he is gone I just want him to come back already!

One exciting thing that happened tonight was that I started a new cross-stitch project on linen. I have stitched on Aida and evenweave fabric; but never linen as I thought it was too hard. The stitching on linen looks superior to everything else (to me at least) and so far tonight I have successfully stitched one whole word on the linen and I feel like this is something I can definitely do. So, wahoo on that!

I have the movies Enchanted, The Painted Veil and Memoirs of a Geisha to watch this week. Also, I own the movies Funny Girl and Moulin Rouge which I want to watch again.

Hope everyone has a good week! Things are looking up in America!

Hi Laura!! I haven't talked to you in a while!! Gosh, I used to cross stitch ALL the time, it was my very first craft I ever did! Sorry you're missing Mike, I'd be happy to loan you my husband while he's away :)

Hey Missy! So good to check in and see what you are up to! Red Lead sent out a notice about a Christmas craft workshop on the 15th...I got misty-eyed for days past, and then deleted it as I have to take my mom somewhere that day! Your books, movies, blogging, and cross stiching will keep you afloat and time will rush by so fast. Enjoy!

Hey, you get a "ATTA GIRL!" for trying linen! It's such a different look and feel. Every once in a while I just want to stitch on aida, but mostly I stitch on linen.

I so wish you could come up for a visit so I could take you to my mom's house....
her house is full of all the cross stich she has done over the years, she has tons of patterns she would share with you and she would help you with anything....as she's a linen whore and has been for a long time now !!!!!

A stitch-in! That sounds fun. :)
I know what you mean about travelin' husbands. Instead of getting anything done you just ending up waiting for them to come home.
Try to make the best of it and enjoy your movies!
I haven't seen Enchanted or Moulin Rouge, but am a fan of all the others.

I'm just like you - when Double BB is gone, I can fill my time with projects, but boy I canNOT sleep and I can't wait for him to get back. You will LOVE Memoires of a Geisha AND the Painted Veil, but get out your kleenexes!!!

I understand completely! I always think I'm going to enjoy some 'alone' time when Paul has to go out of town, but as soon as he's gone I'm all out-of-sorts and ready for him to be home! I have a new Gay Ann Rogers project to start so the prep of the canvas and frame will keep me busy tonight. Tomorrow...well, we'll see!

Would you please share the cross stitch shop that was in a near by town to you. You mentioned that it was crammed with stuff but that the people didn't seem very friendly. I am always looking for new shops and would love to find another near the Columbus Area.

Thanks!

Hi Laura! Orland Cupboard is a great shop! I try to get there a few times a year.

Good for you for trying linen. It's not so hard!

Happy stitching,

Hi Laura, This is Darleen and I chatted with your mother yesterday and she mentioned your blog site. I am so glad you are so into cross stitching. I did it avidly for 10 of more years; mostly with Aida and some samplers with linen. WOW!! The linen looks so great I love it, too. I am now madly finishing a sweater as a Christmas gift. Happy Holidays, love, Darleen
