I am interrupting the blow by blow recap of last weekend to talk about cross-stitching for a minute. My Mom and I were able to spend last weekend in a great little apartment on the second story of the quilt shop, Country Sampler. It is an ideal place with a huge work table, kitchen, fireplace, and three bedrooms. It could accomodate 7 people. All weekend we were imagining our friends being with us.....it would be a really grand time!
Well, I brought up every cross-stitch project I have. I thought I would get so much done and I also just wanted to ooh and ahh over my stash. The top picture in this post is a look at everything all jumbled up. Well, I must have brought out at least four pieces and each time there was something wrong. The linen was too small for me to see; there was some counting mistake and stitches were off, etc., etc., etc. It was very frustrating. I could not get a good flow of stitching going.
Above is my Mom doing her first backstitching. She found these ornaments in a magazine; a bunch of Swedish ornaments. So cute!!!
Anyway to make a long story short.....I struggled and struggled with linen projects....I had this lovely little number above started a long time ago with a 25 count Lugana. I decided that I am going to work on this piece exclusively until it is done. I feel bad that linen is sort of kicking my butt right now; but I have to have something that is not too hard to stitch right now. So, that is where I am at in cross-stitch land. I have taken a couple of steps back.........but I vow to keep trying and conquer the linen!

Wow -- it keeps getting better and better! That place sounds just wonderful! Oh, I've such a happy smile on my face for you two!
Sounds you had a great time with your Mom. Sometimes it just goes like that -the stitching mojo is just "off" LOL. Working with an evenweave like Lugana or Jobelin is a nice transition to linen. You will get it down fine I'm sure. Maybe you should try magnification - some reader glasses might help? I loved stitching the LHN design Sampler Lady and hope you do too. (mine is finished but unframed darn it)
Again that sounds heavenly!!! Is that the piece you are bringing Tues. night? Can't wait to see it. I am planning on going and will just stay at school until then and go from there- so hope to see you!!! I am still working on my mitten- I have gotten back into stamping so I focused my energies on that. Funny - I can't seem to really do both- darn- that will be a goal of mine! Have a great weekend Laura~
I think Sampler Lady looks fabulous. Keep plugging away...one stitch at a time quickly adds up. It sounds like you and your mom had a wonderful time. That apartment with uninterrupted stitching time sounds like my dream vacation. LOL! Can I ask you about your project bags in the first picture? Those look really neat. Have a great weekend!
hey maybe you need a pair of readers to do your upclose work? that is what i need to use know....xo
It's no surprise, but I love that you and your Mom are so close. Glad you had such fun.
It's great that you had a wonderful time with your mother during the weekend. Your mother's backstitch looked great. I hope you get better at cross stitching.
